A couple from Utah experienced the joy of welcoming quadruplets, two pairs of identical twins, after their IVF journey captured nationwide attention.
Ashley and Tyson Gardner felt immense happiness following the arrival of their daughters Indie, Esme, Scarlett, and Evangeline via C-section at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. At birth, three of the girls weighed just over 2 pounds, while the fourth was slightly under that weight, as reported by the hospital.
The Gardners had faced fertility challenges for eight years before opting for IVF, a process where an egg is fertilized outside the body in a lab. Remarkably, both fertilized eggs implanted in Ashley split, resulting in her pregnancy with two sets of twins, a rarity with the odds being one in 70 million for quadruplets.
Ashley, a graduate of Lone Peak, carried the quadruplets for 29 weeks and 4 days, spending 7.5 weeks in hospital bedrest. She engaged actively with the infertility community during this period, offering support and sharing her story. When the babies were born on December 28, 2014, within just 2.5 minutes of each other, they were small yet healthy.
The delivery involved five neonatologists and a total team of 37 people at the hospital, all ready to cater to the newborns’ needs. The quadruplets, Indie, Esme, Scarlett, and Evangeline, were able to go home within two months, reuniting the family in their American Fork residence.
Ashley, expressing her joy, referred to her daughters as unexpected blessings. The family draws public attention during outings, underscoring the community’s interest and affection for the quadruplets. At 28, Ashley is now relishing her motherhood journey, grateful for her daughters’ health and happiness, cherishing every moment and milestone with them.
